NEW YORK (Steely Dan Official Website) - Steely Dan has announced a release date for its new studio album. Everything Must Go, the band's first effort since 2000's Two Against Nature, is due May 6 from Reprise Records.

A press release states, "Everything Must Go took roughly a year to record--a veritable wind sprint given [Walter] Becker and [Donald] Fagen's legendary meticulousness in the studio." It also included this quote from Fagen: "It's mad: it's wiggy: I love it."

Fagen plays keyboards on every song and sings lead on all but one of them, with Becker adding his voice to a track for the first time in the band's studio history, although he's been known to take the mic in concert, as well as playing guitar and bass throughout. The album features a core band that includes drummer Keith Carlock, keyboardists Ted Baker and Bill Charlap, and guitarists Jon Herington and Hugh McCracken.

The press release also notes that Steely Dan recorded and mixed at least some parts of the album on analog equipment, a departure from Becker and Fagen's long-standing use of digital machines.
