MELBOURBE, Australia (Melbourne Sun Herald) - The Vines' American tour ended early last fall after an on-stage brawl, so they had a lot to prove when they recently returned to the stage as part of Australia's Big Day Out festival tour.

The Melbourne Sun Herald reports that the Melbourne show was a disaster. The paper called the show "painful" and a "wasted opportunity", and reports that front-man Craig Nicholls dropped his guitar several times and smashed a microphone as a disinterested crowd drifted away from the stage. Reviews of The Vines' show in their hometown of Sydney were far more positive.

The Melbourne Sun Herald quotes a fan as saying "within two songs people started streaming out I saw punters with their Vines T-shirts turned inside out."
