New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - The Ponderosa Stomp has confirmed a three-day conference for April 27, 28, and 29 at the Louisiana
State Museum in New Orleans, LA in conjunction with its two night festival April 28 and 29 at the House of Blues. The longest conference to date for the Stomp, it will include oral histories and panel discussions from the unsung heroes of rockabilly, swamp pop, blues, surf, soul, funk, and rhythm and blues. These musical pioneers, producers, label men, and engineers will pull back the curtain on rock and roll's secret history. Historical figures appearing include:
* Dan Penn - writer of "The Dark End of the Street," FAME Records musician, and architect of southern soul.
* Wanda Jackson - 2009 Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and female rockabilly pioneer.
* Question Mark - wild man leader of garage rock legends Question Mark and the Mysterians, who wrote the monster hit "96 Tears."
* Wardell Quezergue - "the Creole Beethoven" and New Orleans mastermind behind countless rhythm and blues classics. Mac Rebennac (better known as Dr. John) and Bob French will interview Quezergue.
* Marshall Chess - produced over 100 Chess Records and ran the company for a time, ran Rolling Stones Records for the Stones, and executive producer for "Cadillac Records" film.
* Otis Clay - deep soul/gospel belter and Hi Records veteran.
* Dale Hawkins - "Suzie Q" writer/performer and guitar slinger.
* Cosimo Matassa - founder and producer for J&M Studios, where Little Richard, Fats Domino, Professor Longhair, Lewis, and others recorded.
* James Blood Ulmer - guitar innovator who has played with Ornette Coleman,Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and created his own blues-fusion sound.
* Cowboy Jack Clement - legendary engineer /songwriter who wrote, engineered, and/or produced for Johnny Cash, George Jones, Lewis, and Waylon Jennings, Charlie Pride and started out as engineer for Sun Records.
* Lady Bo - guitar-slinging sidekick of Bo Diddley's who played on "Hey, Bo Diddley," "Mona," "Crackin' Up," "Roadrunner," and more.
The panels and oral histories will be presented by major music historians including American Routes host Nick Spitzer, renowned authors Peter Guralnick and Robert Gordon, and Ira "Dr. Ike" Padnos, the festival and conference's mastermind, creator, and producer of the Ponderosa Stomp. In addition, rare films will be shown.
