Director Dale Franzen today announced the 2009-2010 programming for the 2nd season of The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage at the
Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center.
The 2009-2010 season spans 81 performances, between September 2009 and May 2010, and includes Broadway and theater, as well as the return of chamber music, jazz, world music, baroque, dance, opera/voice; and family and educational programs.
The Broad Stage is solidifying its place as an essential cultural destination that offers accessible programs from a broad artistic menu, attracting audiences of all ages and interests, and keeping the arts a vital part of the everyday experience. With ticket prices starting at just $20 and free parking, patrons can easily experience an evening of music, theater and dance in beautiful Santa Monica.
Season highlights include:
Mikhail Baryshnikov opens the 2009-2010 Second Season with two U.S. premieres of dances by Alexei Ratmansky and Benjamin Millepied. Joined by prima ballerina Ana Laguna.
Placido Domingo makes his Broad Stage conducting debut with the LA Opera Orchestra in a program of Zarzuela, all performed in Spanish.
KCRW Presents Shakespeare's Globe Theatre Company, direct from London - 12 performances.
Savion Glover Tony Award winner for the extraordinary Bring in da Noise, Bring in da Funk will perform the West Coast Premiere of Bare Soundz.
Part of Gustavo Dudamel's Americas LA Phil Festival, Schola Cantorum de Venezuela performs a three-part a capella program including sacred and secular music and popular music of South America, Venezuelan madrigals, and choral songs.
Basil Twist makes his Broad Stage debut performing his puppet version of Petrushka.
Tenor Juan Diego Florez, makes his Los Angeles recital debut.

Subscription sales for The Broad Stage 2009-2010 season go on sale Friday, May 15th. The Broad Stage box office opens for single ticket sales ($20 - $100) on Monday August 3, 2009. Box office hours are 12 noon to 6:00PM, Monday - Friday. Members enjoy the benefits of priority seating, special discounts, purchasing tickets before the general public, and many others.
