Nelly Furtado has made history by reaching No 1 on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart with her single "Manos Al Aire," the lead single off of Mi Plan. Mi Plan is Nelly's fourth studio album and her first album to be recorded solely in Spanish. "
Manos Al Aire" reached the top of the charts as an original Spanish song written by a North American singer/songwriter - the first for a US artist.
Nelly Furtado has sold over 18 million albums worldwide in her career, with close to 10 million in sales from her last album Loose, which reached No 1 in global album sales in 2007.
Nelly Furtado's upcoming album Mi Plan will be released on September 14th internationally and September 15th in the US. The first single, "Manos Al Aire", is already a huge success in Germany, Italy, Colombia, Chile and Central America where it has stayed No 1 at radio since its debut. The single also reached the Top 5 in Mexico, Spain and Argentina.
Nelly Furtado, who is known for wide-ranging musical taste and interest in different cultures, has invited a select group of international artists like Alejandro Fernandez, Josh Groban, Juan Luis Guerra, Julieta Venegas, La Mala Rodriguez, Buika and Alex Cuba, to contribute to the much-anticipated album. Nelly has had a long-standing bond with Latin music since her career began. In 2002 she recorded a duet with Juanes on the song "Fotografia", which peaked at No 1 in 12 countries including the US.
