Spielberg considering playing with Gorillaz

Hollywood (Top40 Charts) - Steven Spielberg, fresh from the robots of AI, is apparently negotiating with British band Gorillaz about the possibility of making a full-length animated feature film.

Top40 Charts reports that the animated group, which includes Blur frontman Damon Albarn, are currently garnering huge acclaim in the States. Their debut album which was recently nominated for the Mercury Music Award in the UK has sold around 300,000 copies in the USA in six weeks and is soon expected to reach the top ten.

Apparently a music industry insider has confirmed that Spielberg has been in touch with Gorillaz and in particular that he has has various chats with Albarn in his London studio. A few years ago, Spielberg is rumoured to have attempted to set up a similar project with the Britpop band Supergrass. The director envisiaged a pop romp in the style of The Monkees. The band reputedly turned him down flat. Now the Gorillaz project offers Spielberg another opportunity.

"There's no doubt of the massive potential a film like this carries," the insider told us. "Not only on screen and musically, but also in promotion and merchandising. It would be huge." An official spokesman for Gorillaz would not confirm or deny the story.
