NEW YORK (White Stripes Fans Website) - The White Stripes returned to the stage Saturday night (September 13), after a two-month hiatus caused by frontman Jack White's fractured finger. The show at San Francisco's Greek Amphitheater was the band's biggest headlining gig ever, with 8,500 fans in attendance. White reportedly told the crowd, "It's very nice for us to be playing again...San Francisco was the first town that ever loved us." The Stripes had to scrap and reschedule all their summer tour plans after White broke his left index finger in a July automobile accident. White's finger still cannot bend fully, which slightly affected his guitar playing during the show. The band did not play their biggest hit, "Fell In Love With A Girl," concentrating on older tunes and material from their latest album, Elephant. Jack White also paid tribute to the late Johnny Cash by reciting the lyrics to Cash's "I Got Stripes." The Stripes play Seattle Tuesday (September 16). The current run of North American dates ends September 26 in Mesa, Arizona. The band will begin a makeup tour for their canceled summer shows on November 10 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Stripes are also scheduled to play the Voodoo Music Festival in New Orleans on November 2.
