New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Lightfighters Official Website) - The Lightfighters, a Monterey County-based rock and soul group have released their first album, 'Behind the Tides' online and have already seen success despite never having played a live show. The trio, Jonathan Griffin, Scott Caine and Cecily Hunt, are following the trends of modern day 'do-it yourself' music, producing the entire album at home and are building a following through social media and online publicity.
Where bands once had to play live shows and get signed with a record label to sell albums, The Lightfighters exemplify how in today's digital frenzy if you have raw talent, a catchy sound, and a Facebook account, you also have a shot at selling records.
The album takes listeners back to a place of old rock where lead singers sang about big dreams and whimsical romances - and that nostalgic place seems to be working. What started by posting songs on MySpace, YouTube, Tunecore, Podcasts, and building fans on Facebook, has now evolved into radio airtime and recording contracts.
The band has already seen success on the Podshow Radio Network where the station featured an entire show on their album and fans called in with rave reviews and questioned where they could purchase the record. The Lightfighters have also been played on The Soft Rock Classic show, I Heart Radio, Lastfm, Ed's Mixed Bag, and are featured on a compilation disc out of the UK titled 'Best of Royalty-Free Music' since their release in February. However, their greatest accomplishment so far is signing with Rhythm Authors LLC to place their song 'Railway Station' in the Rock Band video game. Thanks to the online networking, the group has also gone global signing a contract to license their music with R2G, China's largest independent music distribution company and staying domestic while licensing with Music for Film and Television out of Ventura, Ca.
Originally started by Griffin and Caine in Griffin's garage in 2007, the self-made band has had limited resources and time to produce an album, considering they all have families and day jobs. With Griffin performing nearly all of the band's instruments, including piano, keyboard, acoustic guitar, bass and drums and Caine at the helm of engineering, mixing, recording, as well as guitar and vocal work, home-recordings started in 2007 and continued until the end of 2008.
The members are personally influenced by 50's through 90's soul and rock music as well as alternative and blues genres and artists like The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly, and Etta James to name a few. Songs like 'Railway Station' and 'Another Love Song' portray the roots of their soulful melodies with instruments like the Wurlitzer piano, B-3 Hammond organ, and Motown style bass and drum rhythms. Hunt's powerful vocals remind us of a cross between Linda Ronstadt and Kelly Clarkson and are complemented by Griffin's raspy baritone.
'Behind the Tides' can be purchased through itunes, Tunecore, and CDbaby. They are currently building a website (www.lightfighters.com) with the idea of involving the fans in their growth where they can be a part of the band's journey. Users will have the option to download their music for free, see previews into their second album, and give their input on ideas for music videos, studio sessions, or even live private performances.
