Daisy Rock Girl Guitars) -
Daisy Rock Girl Guitars, the original girl-guitar company, is honored to announce its sponsorship of the legendary Japanese pop-punk icons, Shonen Knife's current North American tour. Despite their pop-oriented nature, the trio maintains a distinctly undergroundgarage rock sound, rooted in edgy instrumentation and D.I.Y. aesthetics.
When the band first started nearly 3 decades ago, they were something of an anomaly. They were coming in the scene at a time where all-female bands were quite rare. Shonen Knife is unique in the sense that they drew influence from the 1970s punk rock/new wave bands such as The Ramones and Buzzcocks, all while ignoring the then-rising "J-Pop" movement in their native Japan. The trio began crafting energetic rock songs rooted in rough instrumentation and do-it-yourself ethos. However, unlike traditional rebellious punk rockers, the trio emphasized positivity, using catchy, upbeat melodies and frivolous, carefree lyrics that often touched on sweets and animals.
Towards the end of their first decade as a band, Shonen Knife would earn recognition by members of the up-and-coming "alternative-rock" scene. After having a single featured on a Sub Pop compilation, they began receiving lucrative offers from several U.S. labels. By this time, many alternative-rock groups had already begun citing Shonen Knife as a favorite of theirs, thus resulting in the true D.I.Y. word-of-mouth fashion. This created significant exposure for the band, and in the decades since, has earned them a worldwide cult following.Making avid fans out of seminal '90s alternative acts such as Sonic Youth, Nirvana, and Redd Kross.
Supporting the release of their latest album Free Time, fans can check out Naoko (Vocals / Guitars) rockin' a Rebel Rockit Supernova "Astral Blue" and Ritsuko (Bass / Vocals) playing the Rock Candy Bass "Atomic Pink" during their tour.Fans might also have a chance to win one of several Debutante Star or Heartbreaker models signed by the band.See below for dates:
