NEW YORK (Erykah Badu Official Website) -
Erykah Badu kicks off her 28-city national Worldwide Underground Part II tour on Tuesday, February 3rd in New Orleans. The acclaimed singer/songwriter has an armload of 2003 Grammy Award nominations under her belt, recently completed her latest film venture and released her third studio project, an EP titled, Worldwide Underground. The set debuted in the Top 10 of the US ALbums Top 200.
The critically acclaimed EP has been certified gold and is fast approaching platinum. The set has spawned four Grammy nominations, in the following categories: "Best Female R&B Vocal Performance" ("Back In The Day"); "Best Urban/Alternative Performance" ("Danger"); "Best R&B Song" ("Danger"); and "Best R&B Album."
Released in mid-September, Worldwide Underground contains new songs Badu crafted while on her worldwide "Frustrated Artist Tour" throughout 2002-2003. Worldwide Underground features collaborations with Lenny Kravitz ("Back In The Day"), Roy Hargrove ("Think Twice"), Queen Latifah, Angie Stone and Bahamadia ("Funk You Up"), among others.
Ms. Badu recently wrapped production on her third movie project, a starring role in the film, "House Of D," featuring Robin Williams, Tea Leoni, Orlando Jones and David Duchovny, who wrote and directed the drama. The independent project is slated for a fall release.
But in the midst of the Grammy Awards - which will be telecast live from Los Angeles on February 8th - and the theatrical release of the movie, the Dallas native will embark on her upcoming national touring jaunt. Neo-soul newcomers Floetry will serve as the opening act for the 28-city tour, which has been routed for six weeks, kicking off in New Orleans on February 3rd and commencing on March 14th in Orlando.
