New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ RoadRunner Records) Trivium were chosen as Artists of the Week by the guitar site GuitarSquid.com. Guitarists Matt Heafy and Corey Beaulieu were interviewed about their new album In Waves, the gear they used during the recording process, and more. Says Heafy about the lengthy creative process behind In Waves, "At one point, we had made up about 40 songs, but we chose the best ones. About a year into the recording process, we started the visual artwork process. We have five visual artists on this record and three production team people. And with the four of us included, that makes 12 people working on this record for the span of, I guess, three years or so. It's definitely the most cohesive vision we've ever had." Beaulieu says his playing on the new record "was about writing cool songs and cool parts that are fun to play and fun to listen to. So if the song called for something crazy, fast, shreddy or whatever-we'd do that. But most of the stuff is pretty straight-forward. It's all about writing memorable parts and memorable solos. It's not about how fast or how many notes you can fit in, or how many swoops you can do. It's all playing for the song and playing what the song needs, instead of showing off how good you are." In Waves hit record stores this Tuesday, August 9, as a standard 13-song CD and a deluxe edition with five bonus tracks and a DVD with a documentary, the video for "In Waves," and footage of the band performing eight songs in a Florida warehouse.
