NEW YORK (Whirled
Music press release) - Former Tom Tom Club member Gary Pozner composed the original soundtrack for The Quest for King Arthur, a brand new film airing Sunday, June 20, 2004 on the History Channel. Partisan
Pictures produced the documentary film, which will air two weeks before Touchstone
Pictures is set to release its feature film based on the same legendary character.
The Quest for King Arthur, with narration by Patrick Stewart, is the second epic documentary Gary Pozner has scored for the History Channel. In 2003, Pozner composed the score for the History Channel's Russia: Land of the Tsars, which received critical acclaim, including a 2004 CINE Golden Eagle Award.
Pozner also conducted the symphony on the soundtrack recording, released last year by Whirled Music.
Pozner is best known to rock fans as the keyboardist in the Tom Tom Club and the founder of African-Celtic-Gospel-Rock band EO. His musical career began in the Catskills, where he played piano for such luminaries as Chubby Checker, Joel Gray, and Barbara Eden. Later, with his Tom Tom Club band mates (former Talking Heads members Chris and Tina), Pozner shared a stage with the Grateful Dead, U2, and Keith Richards.
Film music buffs know Gary Pozner better for his work as composer on films such as Enemies of War and Gotti. Pozner has also written music for HBO, PBS, Court TV, National Geographic, and several other networks.
Earlier this year, he made his musical theatre debut as the composer and lyricist for Walden Media's stage musical Nautilus: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which enjoyed a successful run at Denver's Walden Family Playhouse.
Gary Pozner is currently working on the scores for The French Revolution (History Channel), Destination: Titanic (National Geographic), and A Place Like This, a documentary film directed by Yvonne Kenny and financed by a grant from ABC, that explores the world of women's residencies in New York City.
