Teena Marie is proving to the world that she only gets better with time.
La Dona, her first album in 10-years, has remained in the Top 5 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Charts since its release on May 11th.
"Still In Love," the lead single from Marie's critically acclaimed CD, is currently No 1 at the urban adult contemporary radio format. Teena Marie's last No 1 single was 1988's hit song "Oh La La." La Dona marks Teena Marie's Cash Money Classics/Universal Records debut. As the first artist on Cash Money's new imprint, Cash Money Classics, Teena Marie bridges the gap between the old and new schools of Soul music.
"Still in Love," was co-produced by Teena Marie and Cash Money's in-house producer, Mannie Fresh. The song retreats back to the soulful beginnings of R&B with a groove influenced by Al Green's hit "What a Wonderful Thing Love Is," making it clear that Teena Marie is back.
Over the course of her illustrious career, Teena Marie has released over 13 albums and at least 10 compilation albums.
In 1982, Teena Marie became an advocate for recording artists of all genres when she spearheaded "The Brockert Initiative," named in her honor. The groundbreaking initiative put strict limitations on the length of artists' contracts with record labels.
In 1994, she became an entrepreneur when she launched her own label, Sarai Records, and independently released Passion Play.
