New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ RoadRunner Records) Rush have (finally!) been nominated for the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2013. They join Albert King, Chic, Deep Purple, Donna Summer, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Kraftwerk, the Marvelettes, the Meters, N.W.A., the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Procol Harum, Public Enemy, and Randy Newman.
The band has collectively issued the following statement this morning: "We are honored to be among the nominees for this year's Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. We are especially thrilled for the many, many dedicated Rush fans to whom this nomination is so very important."
Rush fans have been clamoring for the group to be nominated since 1999, the first year they were eligible. Guitarist Alex Lifesondiscussed the subject with Rolling Stone in June, saying, "It's someone's thing, and they can do whatever they want with it. They can have whomever they like...look, there are a lot of other bands that should be in there before we should be in there."
Those fans will be able to make their voices heard this year, for the first time; from now through December 5, fans can vote on RollingStone.com for the acts they'd like to see nominated. The top five nominees will be entered as a single "fan's ballot" which will count toward the final determination. So go vote!
