NEW YORK (REM Fans Website) - R.E.M. is tentatively set to release "Leaving New York," the first single off their new album, on Sept. 27 in the UK.
The new album, not yet titled, is slated to hit the streets in North American on Oct. 5. This album is the follow-up to 2001's Reveal.

The group's song "Final Straw" will appear on the Future Soundtrack of America, a compilation album being released by Barsuk Records on Aug. 17, of which all proceeds will benefit MoveOn.org, Music For America, Common Assets and other politically active organizations. The song was previously released online and was featured during the band's 2003 tour.

R.E.M. is also planning a fall tour to support the release of their new album. The tour is expected to strategically target swing states, in the wake of the upcoming presidential election.
Check out band guitarist Peter Buck, featured on the Thrills' new album Let's Bottle Bohemia out Sept. 14 by Virgin.
