NEW YORK (www.jtmp.org) - On August 2, 2004,
Justice Through
Music launched its ROCK YOUR RIGHTS DVD to inspire young people to vote in the upcoming election. The DVD features 20 bands (Indigo Girls, Violent Femmes, OAR, Sleater-Kinney, Yellowcard,
Smile Empty Soul, Cypress Hill, Lamb of God, Dilated Peoples, STUN, Boy Sets Fire, Epoxy, Vendetta Red, Mike Park, Living End, Roman Candle,
Strike Anywhere, Darkest Hour, Anti-Flag, and the Lunachicks) discussing important issues such as voting, the war, the death penalty, the drug war, freedom of expression, women's issues, due process and privacy.
These are interspersed with live concert footage, student interviews, and facts about the issues in a very fast moving and hard hitting style. The DVD includes three get-out-the-vote PSAs, a trailer, and a Fact section with hundreds of facts from a dozen organizations such as Amnesty International, ACLU, NORML, Families Against Mandatory Minimums, New Voters Project, Students for Sensible Drug Policy and the Marijuana Policy Project. The DVD connects directly to youth without any of the ubiquitous adult speak so often ignored by the GENEXT voters.
The DVDs are free to schools for use in the classroom, and voter and non-profit organizations get them at cost. They are available for $7.00 for everyone else, including shipping, from the Justice Through Music website, www.jtmp.org. That site is very informative, with the PSAs and trailer online, and dozens of complete band interviews, concert footage and pictures, voter registration, and links to cool organizations and bands.
The get-out-the-vote PSAs are available free to websites and the media. [email protected]
