NEW YORK (BPI announcement) - The UMA (Urban Music Awards) is a new award ceremony supporting the best of UK Urban and Dance music.

The UMA awards are in recognition of the various artists/dj's/musicians/labels/club nights that make up the vibrant underground, dance, and urban music scene. The UMA awards also celebrate others who have emerged from this vibrant dance and urban music scene to become internationally credible and recognised artists. After its inaugural year they have added 7 categories.
"The UMA awards is one of the best awards I've won in years because it sums up all the work I've done in music through out the years" Graham Gold (winner of 2003, Best Trance/Progressive DJ)
"I am so proud to win an award at the UMAs, thanks to all those who voted for me and I'll keep supporting the UMA, because it is one of the only non-pretentious awards ceremony out there. Thanks again to every one who voted for me" Carl Cox (winner of 2003, Best House DJ) "It's all about keeping it British, and the UMAs is where it is. No fakeness, it's real" Dizzee Rascal (winner of 2003 , Most Inspiring Act )
