DETROIT, MI. (www.hccsnet.org) - One of Detroit's finest jazz musicians, Robert Lowe, will be performing with the youth band, HotSauce, at the 4th annual "Samaritan Center
Friends & Family Summerfest" on Aug. 15, 2004 from 1-5 p.m. The event, supported in part by the Empowerment Zone Development Corporation, is open to the public. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Located on Conner Avenue near Warren, Samaritan Center is a community resource center, featuring nearly 80 individual Mission Partners, serving the needs of the surrounding eastside neighborhoods and communities.
"We're inviting our neighbors in from around the Samaritan Center to enjoy a family-friendly gathering," said Brother Francis Boylan, csc, Samaritan Center President.
"Not everyone can afford to take a summer vacation or go to Cedar Point, so we wanted to make an afternoon that could be shared and enjoyed by the entire family."
The Summerfest combines the fun and flare of an old ice cream social with entertainment, games, clowns, face painting and balloon tossing for kids. The day's festivities will conclude with performances by jazz musician Robert Lowe and the up and coming youth band, HotSauce.
Samaritan Center, the former Detroit-Mercy Hospital site, has been transformed into the nation's largest faith-based One-Stop location, offering a comprehensive array of social services, career planning, job training, individual and family counseling, educational and health care services for the neighborhoods and communities surrounding the 27-acre site on Detroit's east side.
