'THIS BAND IS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME.' - AMERICANA UK
Already a success in their native Canada, Juno award winning group
Blackie & the Rodeo Kings, set their sites stateside with the release of their new record, BARK ( True North/Rounder) With BARK climbing the AAA and Americana charts, US tour dates are announced...
A Canadian super-group of sorts, Blackie features the talents of blues aficionado, Colin Linden, acoustic guitar wiz Stephen Fearing and the raucous songwriting talents of Tom Wilson.
While 'Blackie,' known for their distinct brand of blues & rock, acknowledge their roots rock base, they are currently enjoying mainstream attention as BARK climbs the Canadian rock radio charts – with a Top 15 single, 'Had Enough of You.'
Blackie formed in 1995 to pay homage to a relatively unknown, but brilliant local folk songwriter, Willie P. Bennett, and has garnered much praise from critics and fans ever since. BARK features 12 original songs, as well as covers of Willie P Bennett's 'Willie's Diamond Joe' and Bruce Cockburn's 'Tie Me at the Crossroads.'
The album highlights the band's diversity and ability to meld musical styles and influences like the bluesy swagger of 'Water or Gasoline,' to the bittersweet 'If I catch You Crying,' a heartfelt affirmation of friendship and healing during life's heartaches.
While Blackie members Tom Wilson and Stephen Fearing remain committed to various solo projects, Colin Linden made his acting debut in 2003's Coen Brothers film Intolerable Cruelty, and also contributed two songs to the soundtrack.
Colin also worked with the Coen Brothers on O Brother, Where Art Thou and performed at the 'Down From the Mountain' concert at the Ryman Auditorium.
