New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Vision Music Promotion) The Brooklyn tastemaker House label that brought you Azzido Da Bass, Fukkk Off and La Tourette, bring you their latest signing, Carlotek, and his dark House & Techno EP 'Darkened Soul'.
Carlotek released his first single 'Rosario' in 2010 on SP Recordings. The 'Flamencotek' House-Flamenco fusion gathered support from top jocks, like; Nic Fanciulli, Chris Lake,
Roger Sanchez and Dubfire, as well as press and radio coverage on MOS
Radio and Galaxy Network. Subsequent releases and unreleased limited promos, have seen Carlotek's music become personal favourites, of both Orde Meikle of Slam and
Danny Ward AKA Moodymanc, leading to both of these producers getting onto first name terms with the starry eyed up and comer. Other DJ support has flood in from top spinners, like;
Martin Eyerer, Paco Osuna, Audiojack and Michel De Hey.
Formed in 2002, Coco Machete has released a broad rang of music, from Electro to Jackin' House to Nu-Disco. Leading the way as a tastemaker label, many of the roster's artists have gone on to release with prestigous dance labels, such as; Ultra, Om, Leftroom and Kitsuné Maison. The label has also been highly succesful in the world of licensing, getting syncs on CSI LA, Skins (E4), Smallville and Misfits (E4).
Opening up the EP is 'Shards' - a generous serving of twisted moody House, already getting aired on Ibiza Sonica and Proton Radio. Arppegiated synth lines open up the intro, setting the mood, accompanied by off kilter percussion. Mood swings prevail, making it a favourite for late night spinners, like Paco Osuna, Slam, Bottin and Moodymanc. We then drop into the meat of the track, basslines oozing attitude and flanged fx cutting through the mix. Melodies and harmonies are a plenty here.
On the flipside we have the Detroit/Chicago flavoured 'Darkened Soul'. Staccato drums pay homage to classic 80s
Chicago House and the pitch dipping synths, create an interestingly weird texture for the track. Throw in with this, felt vocals and contra time synth stabs, and you have a 3AM head nodder. Progressing the melody later in the track, Carlotek brings in an arabic oud to provide a distant descending sequence, maintaining the listener's interest, as this dark, subversive take on House progresses.
