NASHVILLE, TN. (Lost Highway Records/ www.mercurynashville.com) - Lost Highway recording artist
Sam Roberts and band have landed a spot on the U.S. tour of legendary Canadian group, The Tragically Hip. The tour, which will stop in 30 cities, will kick off on
September 18 and end on October 30. Roberts and company will be touring in support of their first Lost Highway Records release, "We Were Born In A Flame," which hit stores August 31.
"We Were Born In A Flame," originally released in Canada 2003, has had major success in the Great White North with the singles "Brother Down," "
Hard Road" and "Don't Walk Away Eileen." In April 2004, Roberts swept the Juno Awards (Canada's Grammy equivalent). Roberts, an underdog, was nominated for three and won three taking home ARTIST OF THE YEAR, ALBUM OF THE YEAR and ROCK ALBUM OF THE YEAR for "We Were Born In A Flame."
"We Were Born In A Flame" is a diverse collection of 13 songs penned by Roberts in the likes of musical influences such as The Clash,
Spiritualized and Paul Simon. With intelligent lyrics and riffing guitars, the album covers the wide spectrum ranging from melodic to hard-edged and all things in between.
"We Were Born In A Flame" has already received high praise in top U.S. publications such as Blender, Interview, NY Daily News, among others.
"A Montreal singer's promising debut comes in six different styles ... these shiny, strummy songs are a breath of fresh air in a world gone mopey." (3 out of 4 Stars) - Blender
" ... 'We Were Born In A Flame,' matches hearty tunes to husky vocals, and straddles the lines between rock, pop and something like power-folk." - NY Daily News
Roberts and band recently appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien where they performed a rousing rendition of "Don't Walk Away Eileen."
The Sam Roberts Band features singer/guitarist Roberts, guitarist/keyboardist Eric Fares, Bassist James Hall, guitarist Dave Nugent and drummer Corey Zandorozny.
