NASHVILLE, TN. (HIPPIE CHICK TWANG RECORDS/ www.kimmclean.com) - Kim McLean, Nashville's best kept songwriting secret with over one hundred of her original songs recorded by Nashville's best in a variety of genres, is reclaiming her self-lived songs in her own voice, on "Happy Face", her new CD out
September 14, 2004 on Hippie Chick
Twang Records.
Her music falls into the unique sound of "Groove-Grass", with the soul of her North Carolina birthright woven into the natural easy groove that has become her trademark. The CD includes some beautiful cameo visits from cool alt-dude, Michael Logen on 'Cryin' Days', the first single to be released to Americana and AAA radio next month. Of course, the diamond on the project is a wonderful duet with Dolly Parton, on the song, 'Angels and Eagles' which has already been chosen for airplay by Bob Harris on BBC2.
Kim McLean's choice of musicians is impeccable with John D. Willis on guitar/banjo/mandolin,
David Hungate (Toto)/bass, Eddie Bayers, Jr (Cherry Bombs)/drums, Russ Pahl/steel,
Jelly Roll Johnson/harmonica, Jonathan Yudkin ( of the Chainsmokin' Altar Boys)/violin/viola/cello, Jim Horn/woodwinds, and Steve Harmon/trumpet.
Her songs have been recorded by Tim McGraw, Lee Ann Womack, Trisha Yearwood, Jennifer Hanson, Billy Gilman, the Judds, and a host of others in the country genre. In Gospel, she's had songs recorded by everyone from the traditional Florida Boys, and the Happy Goodman family, to her trademark gospel-groove for the Martins which won her a Dove Award for Song of the Year. For years, she's written under the name Kim Patton-Johnston. For her artist career, she's opted to not only reclaim her voice, but her birth name in the process of singing the world, 'her life'.
