Nominees and winners of the TEC Awards are determined through initial selections in April by a Nominating Panel made up of prominent professionals from all areas of the audio industry. Nominees are selected in the Technical and Creative fields, which consist of 24 sub-categories. Eligible projects or products are those that represent superior accomplishment in their respective fields completed or released during the eligibility period. A Voter's Guide and ballot appear in the September 2004 issue of Mix magazine and constitute the final round of voting for the TEC Awards to be presented during the AES convention in San Francisco on October 30th.

Earlier this year Workman launched his latest endeavor, Dan Workman Music, during SxSW where Workman and partner Logan Bosemer presented the company's latest projects. Dan Workman Music is a full service music production and artist development company in Houston. Recent projects include Solange Knowles, Sarah Sharp and up and coming rockers, the Southern Backtones. Dan Workman is a member of SPARS, ASCAP, a voting member of NARAS, and sits on the NARAS Texas Board of Governors.
