LONDON, UK (Top40 Charts) - The remake of Bob Geldof & Midge Ure's Christmas tune, 'Do They Know It's Christmas' has sold 100,000 copies on its first day of release.
The Band Aid 20 lineup features Keane, Paul McCartney, The Sugababes, Skye (Morcheeba), Robbie Williams, Dido, Bono, Jamelia, Justin Hawkins (Darkness), Chris Martin (Coldplay), Fran Healy (Travis), Beverley Knight, Busted, Ms Dynamite, Danny Goffey (Supergrass), Katie Melua, Will Young, Natasha Bedingfield, Snow Patrol, Shaznay Lewis, Joss Stone, Daniel Bedingfield, Rachel Stevens, The Thrills, Roisin Murphy (Moloko), Lemar, Estelle, Neil Hannon (Divine Comedy), Feeder and Dizzee Rascal.
It is expected to to top 300,000 units and to open at the No 1 spot on the British charts. The new version of Do They Know It's Christmas is a sure bet to be the festive chart-topper and stay on No 1 at least until Christmas. The new track should easily be a million seller if it captures the public's imagination like the original.
All proceeds from the sale of the single will go to fight famine in Africa.
