NASHVILLE, TN. (Top40 Charts/ GAC) - Michelle Branch and Jessica Harp had never met, but had heard about one another's talents from their respective fans. Now, the two women who comprise the country duo The Wreckers, are inseparable. Branch and Harp confide to Great American Country network's Lorianne Crook it's a wonder they ever got together at all.

"Some mutual fans said 'you guys sound alike and you should meet up and play music for each other,'" Branch tells Crook, host of the GAC series Academy of Country Music and GAC Present…, which airs on GAC April 2 at 8 p.m. ET. Branch and Harp finally got together when Branch was passing through the Kansas City airport.

"She had only an hour at the airport, so I ran up there and we had TCBY and bonded," Harp says of that fateful initial meeting.

Now with a gold record and a No. 1 hit under their belts, The Wreckers are nominated by the Academy of Country Music in the categories of "Top New Duo or Vocal Group" and "Top Vocal Duo."

Branch and Harp will walk the "orange carpet" live on GAC at the ACM Awards May 15 in Las Vegas. It won't be the first time the duo has made the trip, but they were largely ignored by the paparazzi at last year's event.

"I remember that Gretchen Wilson was in front of us. I think were just in the back of all her photos looking like we had no idea where to go," Branch says on the GAC program.

The duo also talks about the early difficulties they faced in landing a recording contract, their individual eccentricities (Branch has a "thing" about germs, Harp can be overly blunt) and how they might respond should they win the ACM Award.

"I'm a crier," Branch says. "So if anything ever happens where we win something, I'm going to make (Harp) talk, because I'll just start crying."

Academy of Country Music and GAC Present…The Wreckers is the fourth installment of GAC's nine-part series showcasing this year's ACM newcomer nominees. In each episode GAC will devote the entire program to an individual artist or group nominated in the "Top New categories" in 2007 Academy of Country Music Awards: Top New Male Vocalist, Top New Female Vocalist and Top New Duo or Vocal Group. The winner in each category will be unveiled during the 42nd Annual Academy of Country Music Awards program on May 15.
