LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts/ Rebecca Pidgeon Official Website) - Singer/songwriter Rebecca Pidgeon is releasing a new digital-only EP, Blackboard Acoustic Session, as a bonus to fans and currently available exclusively on iTunes. The 4 song EP features two brand new songs, "Lay Me Down," and "Sheffield Steel," as well as new acoustic versions of Rebecca's previously released "Army Brat," and "Baby Please Come Home," both of which were co-written by Rebecca and playwright
David Mamet.
A special contest surrounding the songs "Army Brat," and "Lay Me Down," will kick off online in September, (details to be made available on Rebecca's MySpace and Facebook sites the second week of September) with the military spouse site armywives.com, and other milspouse blogging destinations having already showed glowing support for "Army Brat" (which was made available as a bonus track on Rebecca's 2005 CD Tough On Crime) due to the song's spot-on military cadence and poignant lyrics reflecting the perspective of a military spouse.
The concept for Blackboard Acoustic Session, which finds the singer in a much more relaxed 'sessions' mode was inspired by Rebecca's online blackboard, her home-made, chalk-fueled one-woman instant-messaging service that has caught on with fans of her website. The spry messages (created - for all you hi-tech branding weenies out there - by putting her kids' chalk to the kitchen blackboard) have included thoughts on beating the summer blues to captures of Weather And Tide information from the bonny lochs of Scotland. One of the contests set to roll in September in support of the blackboard theme is a communal blackboard destination where fans can jot down their own daily message.
Rebecca's 'authentic' relationship with her fans was duly noted in Daily Variety's 2008 Women's Impact issue, with the magazine featuring the vocalist/songwriter as one of the few singer/actresses who has earned her 'cred' in the music world via a solid history of releases and 'artistic acclaim.' Rebecca has also rolled out a more visible 2008 performing calendar, announcing upcoming dates in New York City in the month of October, her first extended series of live shows on the East Coast. The shows, start at New York City's Living Room on October 13th, 15th, 16th and will consist of a special acoustic-styled set with Rebecca's regular players, guitarist Willie Aaron (Peter Himmelman) and drummer Debra Dobkin (Shawn Colvin), who are also featured as her accompanists on Blackboard Acoustic Session. Rebecca recorded the 'relaxed' acoustic sessions for her new digital EP in Peter Himmelman's studio, with the acclaimed singer/songwriter overseeing the laid-back production. Webisodes of the studio session will also be made available online.
After releasing an impressive string of albums in the mid-90s, including the acclaimed New York Girls' Club and Four Marys, Rebecca and Klein connected in 2002 to begin the rough sketches for Tough On Crime, which was also produced by Larry Klein and released in 2005.
"Rebecca is finally being recognized by music critics in the same manner as her acting career - her talent and class shining through as always," stated producer Larry Klein. Rebecca has appeared in many of writer/director David Mamet's films (they are also husband and wife), including Redbelt, and acclaimed roles in Heist, The Winslow Boy, and others. Rebecca will also be returning to her role this fall as Charlotte Canning-Ryan in the hit CBS Drama, The Unit. The show will kick off its fourth season on a new night, Sundays at 10:00pm ET/PT.
