LA (Top40 Charts) - With Her Album 'Bueninvento' (BMG U.S. Latin) Already Cited By the LA Times As "The Best Latin Record Of The Year", Venegas Is Nominated For Both "Best Rock Solo Vocal Album" and "Rock Song Of The Year" For the Track "Hoy No Quiero"

The Latina Answer to PJ Harvey, Fiona Apple and the Violent Femmes, Venegas' "Bueninvento" Features Guest Musicians Joey Waronker (Beck), Joe Gore (Tom Waits), and Steve Berlin (Los Lobos), As Well As Production From Gustavo Santaolalla (Molotov, Puya), Caf Tacuba and Control Machete.

"Venegas' second album 'Bueninvento' is the best Latin record of the year so far, a mesmerizing cornucopia of catchy hooks, bittersweet lyrics, old-fashioned accordion lines and sloppy, homemade electronic effects. It's the kind of record that pulls you in and forces you to embrace its quirky, one-of-a-kind aesthetic." -LA Times

"Bueninvento finds Venegas playing the accordion with the intensity of a norteno superstar, then distorting its sound until it becomes as thorny as a punk guitar .Her sugary hooks make you close your eyes and smile with contentment.

Hot on the heels of a just-completed tour with Los Lobos, much-lauded Tijuana alternative songstress Julieta Venegas has been nominated for two Latin Grammy Awards - "Best Rock Solo Vocal Album" for the disc 'Bueninvento' and "Rock Song Of The Year" for the track "Hoy No Quiero". The Latin Grammy Awards will be held September 11th in Miami. Venegas' two nominations follow a year that has seen a flurry of Stateside activity, including tours with Los Lobos and Jaguares, a hit single ("Me Van a Matar") included on both the 'Amores Perros' soundtrack and 'Escena Alterlatina' compilation, and significant radio airplay on English language radio stations including KCRW (Los Angeles), WBAI (New York) and WXPN (Philadelphia).

Venegas got her start as a member of Mexican punk activists Tijuana No, and is responsible for co-writing their breakthrough hit "Pobre de Ti". Her 1997 solo debut 'Aqui' marked the beginning of her collaboration with legendary producer Gustavo Santaolalla (Molotov, Cafe Tacuba, Puya). 'Bueninvento' once again features production from Santaolalla, as well as from Rock en Espanol icons Cafe Tacuba and Latin hiphop leaders Control Machete. Venegas also collaborated with leading U.S. musicians, including Joey Waronker (Beck), Joe Gore (Tom Waits) and Steve Berlin (Los Lobos). The resulting sound of 'Bueninvento' is a sultry mix of intimate rock, bossa nova, a go-go, and electronica.
