America and MTV Tr3s, the network targeting US Latin youth, announced the successful taping of its "Ricky
Martin MTV Unplugged". The one-hour special taped Thursday, August 17 from the Bank United Center in Miami. This marks the 19th MTV Unplugged production for MTV Latin
America and a first for the newly launched MTV Tr3s. The special will debut on MTV Latin America, MTV Tr3s and MTV Puerto Rico on Wednesday, November 1, 2006; and will be made available to MTV's 100 channels worldwide. Additionally, the "Ricky
Martin MTV Unplugged" special will be released as a CD and DVD compilation by Sony BMG.
"What makes the Unplugged experience so unique is that it allows artists and musicians to reinvent themselves and take risks," commented Charlie Singer, Executive Vice President Programming and Creative Strategy, MTV Networks Latin America. "Ricky was able to do that in a huge way and we're really proud to have been a part of that process."
During the show, Martin incorporated Caribbean beats through roaring trumpets, accordions, violins, percussions and saxophones to revamp hits such as "La Bomba", "Lola Lola" and "La Plena". The Puerto Rican sensation was joined onstage with renowned producer and composer Tommy Torres and La Mari of the Spanish electronic flamenco band Chambao, to perform his new song "Tu Recuerdo". Martin also performed the new tracks "La Plena" and "Con tu Nombre."
"Ricky had a fantastic night! His new songs truly resonated with his fans and the classics were full of life and energy due to the original arrangements," commented Jose Tillan, Senor Vice President of Music and Talent for MTV Networks Latin America and MTV Tr3s." The intimacy of the show is a great contrast to the elaborate productions that he is traditionally known for, and the results of this evening will be enjoyed by his many fans around the world," added Tillan Martin also performed fan favorites including "Fuego de Noche, Nieve de Dia", "Volveras" and "Maria" off his album A Medio Vivir, as well as "Asignatura Pendiente", "Vuelve", "Perdido Sin Ti", "Gracias Por Pensar en Mi" and "Con Tu Nombre".
The UNICEF Ambassador of Goodwill also took the opportunity to dedicate his show to the children of the World who suffer from oppression, poverty and the casualties of war. The humanitarian will be honored by the Latin Grammys in November 2006 as "Person of the Year".
