NEW YORK (Treadstone Records) "The music in 'Summerland' is so important; it really adds another dimension to the show," says Jonathan Platt, President of Treadstone Records, which will release the Summerland Original Television Soundtrack on March 22, 2005. "It's very teen- and female-friendly, with a hip edge to it. The soundtrack will be a perfect companion to the show because every song has appeared on 'Summerland' or will be heard in upcoming episodes."

Platt says he and Treadstone partner Jonathan Miller worked closely with Celest Ray, Vice President, Paramount Music, and Ken Miller, Senior Vice President, Spelling Television, on selecting music for the soundtrack. "Jonathan, Ken, Celest and I had previously worked on the 'Charmed' soundtrack together," Platt points out, "and we were totally on the same page when it came to choosing songs for Summerland." Among these consensus choices is "Get Your Shine On," by "Summerland" star Jesse McCartney.

"Get Your Shine On" is joined by "All Downhill From Here," courtesy of punk-pop upstarts New Found Glory, "My Paper Heart," from Stillwater, Oklahoma's The All-American Rejects, Collective Soul's "General Attitude," Ringside's down-and-dirty "Struggle," Bowling for Soup's raucous "Undertow" (exclusive to the Summerland Original Television Soundtrack), Lisa Loeb's ballad "Try," Citizen Cope's lilting "My Way Home," "The Crying," from London soul-pop artist Kristian Leontiou, "Alive" from rock stalwart Kenny Wayne Shepherd, "Feel So Free" from Ivy and the "Summerland" theme.

"We wanted listeners to feel the same energy and excitement they feel when they're watching the show," says Treadstone's Jonathan Miller, "and we knew we'd get that with bands like New Found Glory, All-American Rejects and Bowling for Soup." Established acts, including Collective Soul and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, meanwhile, broaden the soundtrack's appeal with a more traditional rock sound. "And then there are some cool, left-of-center artists," Miller continues, "who add something more adventurous to the mix; Ivy, Citizen Cope and Ringside have an underground sensibility."

Notes Spelling Television's Ken Miller: "We think Summerland will be received very well by the fans. It's also a delight to work with 'Summerland' Executive Producer Remi Aubuchon, who has terrific musical instincts as well."

"We're extremely fortunate to be involved in this project with Spelling Television," comments George Steele, Vice President of Audio Operations for Image Entertainment, Inc., which will distribute the Summerland Original Television Soundtrack. "Their track record is legendary, and we're able to reap the benefits of their highly targeted 'Summerland' marketing efforts in promoting the soundtrack. The Spelling brand speaks for itself among our retail partners. Plus, The WB is helping us out with adcards on 'Summerland' that inform fans about the music and direct them to the album. The 'Summerland' album is a fantastic opportunity for Image to build on its momentum in the soundtrack market."

Concludes Platt, whose career has also encompassed music supervision, "Obviously, we think the 'Summerland' soundtrack will be a must-have for fans of the show, but we also feel it stands on its own as an evocative collection of contemporary pop music."

Platt's Treadstone Records can certainly boast of having its finger on the pulse, with the Summerland Original Television Soundtrack coming hot on the heels of another youth-culture artifact, the soundtrack to Wes Craven's upcoming film "Cursed," which is expected to kick off a "Scream"-like franchise. Treadstone also recently issued the soundtrack to the anime DVD feature "Galerians: Rion" (through Image Entertainment, the company's primary distribution partner). Next up from the label is Charmed: The Book of Shadows, follow-up to 2003's eclectic Charmed: The Soundtrack.
