NEW YORK (SONY BMG) - George Levendis has been named Senior Vice President, SONY BMG Global Marketing Group, it was announced today by Tim Prescott, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for the company, to whom he reports. In his new role, Mr. Levendis will be responsible for liaising between SONY BMG's U.S. Repertoire centers and its operations around the world. The Global Marketing Group is a specialized marketing unit that supports SONY BMG's labels, repertoire centers and operating companies, and their respective international departments, to create and execute worldwide campaigns for SONY BMG's major releases, and developing artists. Mr. Levendis will be based in New York. "George brings to SONY BMG a keen understanding of the global music marketplace and impressive experience gained from working in the U.S., U.K., Europe and Australia," said Prescott. "He is uniquely qualified to help me lead our Global Marketing Group and I look forward to working closely with him." Since 2002 he served as Managing Director/CEO of Heaven Music/Antenna Entertainment, which he helped build into Greece's most successful independent music company. Prior to that he held a number of marketing and management roles during his 13-year tenure with BMG. From 1999 to 2001 Mr Levendis was Vice President, International, Worldwide Marketing for Arista Records in New York, where he oversaw the international marketing campaigns for Carlos Santana's 'Supernatural', Whitney Houston's 'My Love is Your Love' and 'The Greatest Hits' album, TLC's 'Fanmail', and Pink's 'Can't Take Me Home' as well as many others. In 2001 Mr. Levendis was promoted to Senior Vice President, Marketing at Arista Records where he oversaw the label's marketing efforts on behalf of such superstar artists as Usher, Pink, Dido and OutKast. He previously held marketing and management positions at Arista Records U.K., BMG Greece and BMG Australia.
