NEW
YORK (www.fixermusic.com) - Evan Saffer has a knack for mesmerizing his
audience. Granted, good looks and powerful vocals come naturally to
him. But, it's the charisma he brings on stage every time he performs
with his New York City-based band, Fixer, that keeps all eyes glued on
him. There's no denying that Saffer is a born rock star, and now he's
proving that he's an all-around entertainer.
Waterproof,
directed by Michael Scarna, marks Saffer's debut into the world of
independent film. It premieres March 1 at the Cantor Film Center in New
York City at 7:30 p.m. The film also features the song "Two Into One,"
off Fixer's All The Pleasure That You Crave EP.
With a
background in modeling and a brief stint in stand-up comedy, Saffer
decided to try out acting while Fixer was on a short break from touring
last August.
"This was an interesting opportunity because of the
type of role, as well as working with upcoming
Director Michael
Scarna," tells Saffer. "My whole Fixer persona fit the role perfectly.
Mike [Scarna] put together a killer crew for this, as well as a great
cast of talented actors. Mike is a true professional and he is very
talented, constantly shooting different angles, really digging
creatively, and helping the actors get the right vibe. I've never been
involved in anything like this before. It was a blast."
Waterproof
is a comedy, along the lines of Coneheads with a Matrix-like twist.
Saffer plays a villain, Claymore. He reveals, "My character is part of
a futuristic mafia regime going through a gang war while dealing with
its own inner corruption. There are definitely some good action scenes.
I worked long hours with a choreographer on several different fight
scenes as well as weapons training. People should get a good laugh as
well."
Fixer (completed by Wilson Lihn-guitar, J Brown-bass, The
Reverend Diamond Tim Newton-drums) will attend the premiere and then
hit the road in support of their new EP, Mixing In With My Blood, due
out in late March. The album was recorded with Jeff Tomei (Smashing
Pumpkins, Matchbox 20, Jerry Cantrell) and Brian Howes (Closure) at
Cock of The Walk Studios in Kennesaw, Georgia and at Nickelback
vocalist Chad Kroeger's Mountain View Studios in Vancouver, Canada.

Radio calls "the epitome of rock and
roll...galvanizing showmanship...heavy guitar and drums...Saffer's
vocals are astoundingly melodic."
