The Plug Independent Awards is an annual event where music fans worldwide log onto https://www.plugawards.com and vote for their favorite music artists, albums, record labels, magazines, websites/blogs, record stores, radio stations, and venues. In the coming weeks, fans will be able to check out the Plug meem at https://plug.imeem.com to listen, watch, comment and rate the nominees through featured pictures, music and video for all categories. Through January 26th, fans can view and vote for this year's 2007 nominees at https://plugawards.com/general_vote.php. This year's best album of the year nominees include: Band of Horses, Beirut, Belle & Sebastian, Cat Power, Girl Talk, Grizzly Bear, J Dilla, Joanna Newsom, Neko Case, Silversun Pickups, The Hold Steady, and The Knife.
Leading up to the Plug Awards ceremony is the Plug City Highlights Tour, with upcoming stops in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Detroit. Successful events have already occurred in Brooklyn, Miami, Austin and Toronto earlier this year. The mission of these events is to give an outlet to the thousands of music fans whose voices aren't regularly heard, but whose own local indie music scenes are vibrant and established. These all-local shows highlight the best up-and-coming bands, artists, filmmakers, fashion designers, blogs, zines and more. During the tour, Plug and imeem will highlight the uniqueness of each city and amplify recognition and support for their scenes and the people who make them shine.
Plug and imeem are hosting contests to give one up-and-coming band in each city a chance to open up for the Plug City Highlights Tour. Bands will create a profile and submit an original song to the PLUG 'meem' (for the uninitiated, that's a group area within the imeem.com online community). Artists headlining the show will judge the top rated songs and one lucky winner will be chosen to perform. For more information, please visit: https://plug.imeem.com/
