The Beastly Score's A Beauty: Soundtrack Featuring Songs By Regina Spektor, The Vines, Mat Kearney, And Tim Myers To Be Released On March 1st
Los Angeles, CA (Top40 Charts/ CineMedia Promotions) Lakeshore Records will release the Beastly - Original Motion Picture Score available digitally and in stores on March 1, 2011. The original score was composed by Marcelo Zarvos (The Good Shepherd, Sin Nombre).

"The Beastly score is both contemporary and unabashedly romantic," described Zarvos. "Director Daniel Barnz and I had a strong vision that we should also emphasize some of the magical aspects of the story, as if in a fable." The score covers numerous styles, including traditional orchestral, electronic score, and also tango.

Composer Marcelo Zarvos was the perfect choice to score the film, as his trademark is a seamless blend of classical, orchestral, rock, electronic and various ethnic and folk elements, which together create a uniquely affecting and emotionally charged music. His scores have been nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards (You don't Know Jack and Taking Chance) as well as a HMMA Award for Brooklyn's Finest. As a recording artist, Zarvos released three critically acclaimed albums for MA Recordings, "Dualism", "Music Journal" and "Labyrinths" which mixed various world music styles with modern classical and jazz instruments.

Composer Marcelo Zarvos recent film scores include Brooklyn's Finest, Sin Nombre, Remember Me, The Good Shepherd and You Don't Know Jack. Upcoming film scores include Jodie Foster's The Beaver.

Kyle Kingson (Alex Pettyfer) has it all - looks, intelligence, wealth and opportunity - and a wicked cruel streak. Prone to mocking and humiliating "aggressively unattractive" classmates, he zeroes in on Goth classmate Kendra (Mary-Kate Olsen), inviting her to the school's extravagant environmental bash. Kendra accepts, and, true to form, Kyle blows her off in a particularly savage fashion. She retaliates by casting a spell that physically transforms him into everything he despises.

Enraged by his horrible and unrecognizable appearance he confronts Kendra and learns that the only solution to the curse is to find someone that will love him as he is - a task he considers impossible. Repulsed by his appearance, Kyle's callous father banishes him to Brooklyn with a sympathetic housekeeper and blind tutor (Neil Patrick Harris). As Kyle ponders how to overcome the curse and get his old life back, he chances upon a drug addict in the act of killing a threatening dealer. Seizing the opportunity, Kyle promises the addict freedom and safety for his daughter, Lindy (Vanessa Hudgens) if she will consent to live in Kyle's Brooklyn home. Thus begins Kyle's journey to discover true love in this hyper-modern retelling of the classic Beauty and the Beast story.

"It was a lot of fun weaving in and out of the great song selections by Daniel and Music Supervisor Linda Cohen," said Zarvos. "A lot of the times score and source overlap and we really molded the score to make connections between both. At the center of it all are of course the love themes for Lindy and Kyle/Hunter, such as during the poem reading and building of the greenhouse scenes."

CBS Films presents Beastly in theaters on March 4, 2011. Beastly - Original Motion Picture Score on Lakeshore Records will be released digitally and in stores on March 1, 2011.
