Hollywood, California (Top40 Charts/ Blue Note Recors) Many of jazz music's most legendary timekeepers will be celebrated with the March 8 release of a new digital collection titled 'Modern Drummer and Blue Note Present: Jazz Drumming Legends.' The new compilation, featuring 15 classic jazz recordings, will be available for download purchase from all major digital service providers.
Modern Drummer and Blue Note have collaborated to present this special salute to a distinguished group of jazz drum greats, including Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Max Roach, Roy Haynes, Art Blakey, Philly Joe Jones, Joe Morello, Philly Joe Jones, Elvin Jones, Billy Higgins, Jack DeJohnette, Tony Williams, Chris "Daddy" Dave, Lewis Nash, Bill Stewart, and Ignacio Berroa.
In 2009, Blue Note Records celebrated the 70th anniversary of the legendary label's founding. Now entering its 35th year of continuous publication, Modern Drummer remains the world's most successful publication of its kind.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Gene Krupa - Krupa brought drums and specifically drum solos to the forefront of jazz music and performance. Drumming's first superstar, he was a WWII-era pop icon, with Hollywood movies to his credit along with many illustrious big band album credits. Krupa inspired many drummers on this compilation, including Buddy Rich and Max Roach.
Buddy Rich: Widely regarded as the most influential jazz drummer of all time, Rich's career spanned seven decades, from his Vaudeville beginnings at the age of 18 months to his death in 1987.
Max Roach: Roach played with Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Coleman Hawkins and Charlie Parker in pioneering the bebop sound, and earned a MacArthur Genius Grant and eight honorary doctorates, including one from Columbia University.
Roy Haynes: In his 60-year career as one of the world's most recorded drummers, Haynes has earned two GRAMMY Award nominations and has influenced countless contemporary musicians, including the Rolling Stones and The Allman Brothers. Art Blakey: For 40 years, Blakey's band, The Jazz Messengers, was a springboard for developing talents like Wayne Shorter, Wynton Marsalis, Clifford Brown, and many more.
Philly Joe Jones: A drummer who garnered the acclaim of Miles Davis, Jones toured and recorded with Davis' famous Quintet. Joe Morello: Morello contributed drums to more than 60 albums with the Dave Brubeck Quartet, including the famous jazz piece, "Take Five."
Elvin Jones: An influence to many modern rock drummers, Jones was lauded as "the worlds greatest rhythmic drummer" by LIFE Magazine. Billy Higgins: Higgins is renowned for his performances on more than 700 recordings, ranging from jazz leaders Stan Getz to John Coltrane to Pat Metheny.
Jack DeJohnette: DeJohnette has worked with Chick Corea and Miles Davis, and most recently earned a GRAMMY Award in 2009 for his New Age album, 'Peace Time.' Tony Williams: Williams' drumming helped to pioneer the 1960s jazz fusion movement with Miles Davis and his own band, Lifetime. He continued to perform in the `80s with Fuse One. Chris "Daddy" Dave: Dave has worked with a diverse range of artists, from Dr. Dre to Wynton Marsalis to Mos Def. He's currently working on a project with his band, Chris Dave & Friends, fusing jazz, techno and hip-hop. Lewis Nash: A highly regarded educator and performer, Nash is currently performing with the Blue Note 7, a group that plays a wide array of arrangements from Blue Note Records. Bill Stewart: Stewart recently recorded an album with his Bill Stewart Trio and in recent years has worked closely with the Zildjian cymbal company in developing a line of new signature ride cymbals.
Ignacio Berroa: Berroa played with Dizzy Gillespie in the 1980s and '90s, and earned a GRAMMY Award nomination in 2007 for his own album, 'Codes.'
