ASCAP Songwriter Residency International Soccer Anthem "World Cup, It's Time!" Receives 2014 World Cup Placements
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ ASCAP) The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) is pleased to announce that "World Cup, It's Time!", a song created as part of the ASCAP Songwriter Residency, a partnership with acclaimed after-school program America SCORES, has received placements in two upcoming projects. The song was written and recorded by Brazilian blockbuster film composer Heitor Pereira (The Smurfs films, Despicable Me films) and 20 sixth grade America SCORES Los Angeles students at Remote Control Productions. A just-released music video for "World Cup, It's Time!" is now available, in perfect time for the 2014 World Cup, below and on ASCAP's YouTube channel.

"I had so much fun. I will forever be thankful for the opportunity and I want to do more of it! Music can transform and save lives and nothing is better than experiencing that from a very young age," commented Heitor Pereira. "The importance of the America SCORES initiative is that through poetry, music and soccer, they combine what we know is necessary for the successful development of a child: a healthy body, a healthy mind, a deeper soul and a sense of community. This message must certainly resonate with a lot of the players participating in the World Cup who had humble childhoods and were, at some point, given a chance."

Pereira continued: "The unfortunate amount of prejudice and violence in present day sports, on and off the field, makes the poem/lyrics written by the America SCORES kids for 'World Cup, It's Time!' - centered around teamwork, perseverance and how 'playing fair will get you there' - even more relevant. I'm so proud of them. It's time - the World Cup is here!"

Perseus Telecom, an award-winning leading provider of high-speed global connectivity, High Precision Time™ and Market-to-Market networks has selected America SCORES and "World Cup, It's Time!" as the sole charity and song for World Cup Brazil promotions and donations.

The song will also appear in America SCORES' new promotional video featuring their National Spokesperson Briana Scurry, former U.S. World Cup champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist goalkeeper. In the video, which will be released during the 2014 World Cup, "World Cup, It's Time" plays in the background while Scurry enthusiastically shows her support for America SCORES as a program that combines both soccer and academics. The video serves to inspire the America SCORES children, coaches and supporters while educating new people about this important, unique and impactful organization.

The ASCAP Songwriter Residency, a partnership with acclaimed after-school program America SCORES, is an annual mentorship program that provides a platform for songwriters to engage and inspire elementary and middle school students in under-resourced neighborhoods around the country. "World Cup, It's Time!" is just one of seven tracks on the ASCAP Songwriter Residency: Volume 6 album, which is now available to stream or download at www.ascap.com/SongwriterResidency.

ASCAP welcomes anyone wishing to use the song as a promotional tool to email ASCAP Songwriter Residency Executive Producer Sue Devine at [email protected].
