Purchase, NY (Top40 Charts/ PepsiCo) Billboard released their weekly listings yesterday, announcing that The Cool Kids' long awaited LP, "When Fish Ride Bicycles," has come in at No 75 on the Billboard Top 200 Charts, capturing the No 9 position on the Hip Hop/R+B charts and scoring No 16 on both the digital and independent charts.
The album, which has been three years in the making, is the first full-length album released by Mountain Dew's Green Label Sound and is available exclusively on iTunes, where it ranked as the No 1 Hip Hop album and the top 10 overall iTunes chart through release week.
"We're thrilled with the success of 'When Fish Ride Bicycles.' We've always been fans of The Cool Kids, so it was an honor for us to be able to use our resources at Green Label Sound to help them to finally release their long-awaited album," said Brett O'Brien, vice president marketing, Mountain Dew. "The Cool Kids have two very important things in common with Mountain Dew: They do things their own way and they truly care about their fans. They are a great example of what being a Green Label Sound artist is all about."
"When Fish Ride Bicycles" is the first album released as part of a new initiative from Mountain Dew to launch a Green Label Sound iTunes storefront. As part of their agreement with The Cool Kids, Green Label Sound has waived all of the usual label costs, except the iTunes processing fees, granting the artists more freedom than they would have had from most record labels.
"We have had a great experience with Green Label Sound and the people from Mountain Dew, starting back with our single 'Delivery Man' in 2008," The Cool Kids' Chuck Inglish stated. "That single did more for us than our previous full-length album did. They give us everything that any major label would, except that they don't charge all the ridiculous fees and they let us be us. This has definitely been a winning partnership."
Green Label Sound provides mastering, production and the release of their artists' music and public relations and promotional materials for their artists' albums. The label does not require the musicians to recoup any of the money that is spent after the music is released. Green Label Sound artists can be seen and heard at www.GreenLabelSound.com.
The Cool Kids will also be performing this weekend for the kick-off of Dew Tour. They will join Kid Cudi for a free concert on the beach in Ocean City, Maryland on Saturday, July 23rd and a performance of single "Swimsuits" will also air nationally on NBC Sports on Sunday the 24th between 4:30pm and 6:00pm Eastern Time. Fuel TV will also be capturing an interview and performance to air at a later date.
