London, UK (Akara Music) - The 6th instalment of the popular music showcase
Overground is to take place on Wednesday, 22nd March, at Cargo, East London's premiere music venue.
Overground boasts another exciting line-up, including Bashment / Reggae artist
Tippa Irie, R'n'B singer
Keisha White and Ozzie B from UK Garage group, More Fire Crew. Undoubtedly, the most unique act to appear on the night is cutting-edge, downtempo artist Glideascope, who is certain to break out into the mainstream.
Glideascope's music is an incredible hybrid of classical, dub and world influences with contemporary downtempo beats. His concerts incorporate improvised laptop sets - 'a laptop symphony' – strong percussive elements, live cinematic strings and impressive visuals. Glideascope will perform at the Overground with his live band, consisting of violinist, cellist, percussionist and guest vocalists. Tracks will be featured from his forthcoming full-length debut album 'Audio Cinematography', due for release on 12th June 2006, including the upcoming single 'Big Big Disgrace'. This track, due out 29th May, features the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra with vocals by MC Junior Ruff.
Both the album and single will be released through Akara Music and distributed in Europe by Jet Star.
This year's MIDEM music conference was the setting for Glideascope's performance on stage at the Buzz Bands 2006 Showcase, which profiles the ones to watch for'. The only British artist of the 8 new talents selected to appear, Virginie Perrault from the artistic team at MIDEM states 'Glideascope's emotive performance really was one of the best heard at MIDEM, with a truly international sound'. His track 'Going All The Way' appeared on the MIDEM 2006 Talent Digital Disc V.I.P. Edition - a 150 limited edition run of a customised mp3 player produced for the most prominent of the 10,000 delegates taking part from 100 countries.
And the buzz is continuing: for the 2nd year running, Glideascope has been selected as a featured artist for this year's Winter Music Conference (WMC) in Miami. The track 'Istanbul' taken from his forthcoming album will fill one of the coveted slots on the official WMC compilation CD. Last year, 'Big Big Disgrace' previewed on the 2005 compilation with the WMC selection panel granting this a Top 5 ranking and many new supporters - leading internet music journalist Arjan Timmermans, of ArjanWrites.com, describes the track as 'Mozart meeting Shabba Ranks meeting Groove Armada'. Glideascope's material has also been licensed to MTV's documentary series Made' and My Super Sweet Sixteen' and his podcast added to iTunes (see link below).
Make sure you catch the unique experience of Glideascope live on stage at Overground on 22 March - you will discover that the buzz is more than justified.
