NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ Trystette Official Website/ www.trystette.com) - Let me begin by showing my bias. If you are endorsed/work with a man like TM Stevens (Billy Joel, Tina Turner, The Pretenders, James Brown, etc.) than I have no reason to believe you won't be exceptional. Stevens always works with the best, so I expected the same of Trystette's first album since 1998's Tryst and I was not let down. Moving away from but not completely letting go of electro-roots, The Deeper Part of My Soul is a beautiful exploration of funk, ambient, and house music, providing a perfect soundtrack for late night life.

To be honest, Trystette's voice is unique and takes some getting used to. It's a little raspy, a lot airy, and largely sexually overtoned. Once you get used to it though you begin to recognize just how great of a vocalist she actually is. She does a lot on this album but it takes a few listens to reveal it.

One of the standout tracks here is the extremely experimental sounds of 'Scapegoat.' Musically it sounds broken and bent, like The Dresden Dolls meets Laibach or Acumen, never stopping in one spot long enough to find its groove yet commanding your attention from the first note to the last. It's the one song on the album that really rises up and gets in your face. The cover of Marvin Gaye's 'Sexual Healing,' which prominently features Stevens as well, is unforgettable. This is a pretty risky song to cover in my opinion but Trystette pulls it off beautifully and memorably. A great song can quickly be ruined but that is not the case here. Other standout tracks include the ultra-catchy 'Brooklyn Boy in Berlin' and 'After My Release.'

Overall this is a wonderful album if you are looking for something to really chill out to. Although the album isn't ambient, it's never invasive at all it simply exudes a confidence few artists seem to have. Trystette sounds totally comfortable simply being Trystette which benefits the listener greatly. The Deepest Part of My Soul is a nice addition to any fan of Cocteau Twins, Pet Shop Boys, and Melanie C.'s (that's right I said it! And it's a compliment!) music collection.
