New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Jay-Z's new track "100$ Bill" opens the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann's upcoming Great Gatsby film, which the rapper also curated. Today, a snippet of Jay-Z's new track made its way online.
The beat is hard. Jay-Z incorporates the Roaring Twenties of author F. Scott Fitzgerald's "Great American Novel" in his lyrics, shouting out prohibition, the fictional Long Island setting of East Egg and lines from Luhrmann's 3D film adaptation.
Beginning May 7th, the soundtrack will be available digitally and as a 17-track deluxe edition exclusively at Target. A 14-track physical version will also be available at Starbucks in the U.S. and Canada, and widely, both physically and digitally, at various retailers.
The Great Gatsby is directed by Luhrmann, stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Isla Fisher, and Tobey Maguire, and is set to hit theaters on May 10th. "New heroines, new Marilyns, move coke… through Maryland, through East Egg or you beastin'," Jay-Z raps.
