LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts/ ABC PR) Australia's BIRDS OF TOKYO is embarking on a new round of extensive U.S. tour dates with Irish rockers
Kodaline this fall, starting October 2 in Houston, TX at the House of Blues.
Earlier this year, the five-piece relocated to Los Angeles and released their single, "Lanterns," to U.S. radio, which landed BIRDS OF TOKYO in the Top 10 on Billboard's Adult Alternative Songs and Alternative Songs charts. After receiving rave live reviews upon their return to the U.S., the band earned their national American television debut on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in April.
USA Today named the band one of the "Five Australian Acts You Need To Know Right Now," calling them "one of the country's best homegrown live acts." The official video for "
Lanterns" has now garnered over 1.4 million views on the band's official YouTube page.
Most recently, "
Lanterns" featured prominently in the trailer for the new Oprah Winfrey/Steve Spielberg-produced film, "The Hundred Foot Journey," starring Helen Mirren (https://bit.ly/1qJLoEJ; starts at 1:27) and was featured on "American Idol" during their 500th episode celebration show.
BIRDS OF TOKYO and their insistent, bittersweet, rock sounds have resonated deeply with both critics and fans. Following two acclaimed albums, the indie band's self-titled third studio release spent over eight months in the Australian charts and secured the band an ARIA Award (Grammy® equivalent) for "Best Rock Album." They also received Rolling Stone Australia's "Readers Choice Award" for "Favorite Song From The Year's 100 Top Charting Singles In Australia" and the ARIA Award for "Most Popular Australian Artist."
The band then partnered with Los Angeles based producer Dave Cooley (Silversun Pickups, Darker My Love) to work on a highly anticipated follow-up to their breakthrough self-titled release. Creating their fourth studio album, MARCH FIRES, was a journey of exploration and reinvention for the band. It's a story of burning down the old and coming together to build something new.
Spearheaded by the album's first two singles, "
Lanterns" and "This Fire," MARCH FIRES debuted at #1 on the
National Australia Album Chart. The album was certified Gold within weeks of release, while "
Lanterns" went triple Platinum and was the most played song across Australian radio for 2013.
MARCH FIRES is scheduled for release in the U.S. later this year. More album details will be announced in the coming weeks. The LANTERNS EP is out now on iTunes.
