SKIATOOK, OK. (Emanon Records/ www.emanonrecords.com) - Cardinal Trait played selections from their upcoming Emanon Records release You Already Know, which will be released nationwide on October 28, 2004. The 20-minute acoustic set included new songs 'Every Now and Then', 'Nowhere Land,' 'Ardmore,' 'All For You,' and their first single, 'Flashback.' At the end of the evening, the crowd was treated to a preview of the new album, as the master tape was played for all to hear.
Emanon Records executive producer Trevor Lane was in attendance and made sure contestants and judges were provided with the latest Cardinal Trait materials including signed t-shirts for the pageant winners. 'The contestants love the guys being there. They love getting their own mini-concert,' Michelle Bias, Miss Skiatook Lake Scholarship Program Executive Director said. 'Plus, let's face it, the guys are easy to look at.'
This unlikely pairing of beauties and the beat was hatched in 2002 as an idea by Bias, after hearing Cardinal Trait singer Aaron Vaughn play while at a mutual friend's house in Dallas, Texas.
'I and a few board members found ourselves trying to put something different together for the pageant,' Bias said. 'It occurred to us that the guys could play during the evening gown competition and sing to the girls as they walked across the stage.'
Cardinal Trait played during the evening gown competition in 2002 and during intermission in 2003. "Every year we have played the Ms. Skiatook Pageant has been better and better,' Vaughn said. 'I guess Being surrounded by beautiful and talented women helps."
The 2005 Miss Skiatook Lake Pageant is one of the preliminary competitions of the Miss America Organization. The winner of this pageant advances to the Miss Oklahoma Pageant. The winners this year were Gentry Johnson (Miss Skiatook Lake 2005) and Katelyn Waters (Miss TEEN Skiatook Lake 2005).
Interestingly enough, Gentry Johnson, Miss Skiatook Lake 2005 is a vocalist. Cardinal Trait was asked about possibilities of a duet at next years pageant. 'If Gentry has a song that she would like to sing with us I think it would be cool,' Vaughn laughs. 'Of course, we can't play some 'Islands in the Stream' type of song, you know... we need to represent the band for what we are - a rock band.'
Cardinal Trait are holding three CD release parties in Oklahoma: October 22, 2004 at the Two Frogs Grill in Ardmore, October 27, 2004 at the Bricktown Live in Oklahoma City, and the last is tentatively scheduled for Club Suede on October 29 at Tulsa's Brookside.
