NEW YORK (www.girlsontopnyc.com)- Sometimes you can have it both ways. On Friday, January 28 at 9PM, while Girls On Top, a NYC-based classic rock band of 7 women and one lucky drummer boy, storms the stage at Kenny's Castaways (157 Bleecker Street) for an hour of raucous rock 'n' roll, a silent auction for victims of the Asian Quake will hum along quietly in the balcony.

We had started doing more and more charity events, like the New York Cares Coat Drive - you know, bring a coat, get in for free," said Laura McKenna, the band's leader and sax player. "When the tsunami hit and the death count just kept going up and up, we all looked at each other and said, 'We've got to do a fundraiser for this - and make it big.'"

Not content to just donate the door receipts, singer Marcia Green got to work collecting donations for a silent auction, something she had experience with from her days at Hard Rock Café. Within a week, she had scored a show outfit by sassy '80s diva, Cyndi Lauper; a 1993 limited edition photograph of the Rolling Stones by Annie Leibovitz, and a limited edition Ren & Stimpy cartoon cell of superhero character Powdered Toast, with more offers coming in.

All proceeds of the show, including the $5 cover, will go to UNICEF.

The way we look at it," says Lynda Graubert, the band's six-foot, blond bass player, "we all have good jobs, we live in the greatest city in the world -- and we play in a rock band. Helping those people in Sri Lanka and Indonesia and Thailand? That's just karmic payback, darling'. And, we're happy to do it."

Girls On Top is a high energy classic rock/R&B/blues band of seven women and one lucky drummer boy. Their hour-long set at Kenny's Castaways (157 Bleecker Street, NYC) on Friday, January 28, starts at 9PM, and will run concurrently with a silent auction of rock 'n' roll and television memorabilia.
All proceeds, including the $5 cover, will go to UNICEF for Asian Quake Relief.
For additional information or to receive a 3-minute demo of the band, contact Laura McKenna at 718-852-8507 or [email protected]. For photos, visit https://www.girlsontopnyc.com.
