NASHVILLE, TN. (Lost Highway Records) - Lost Highway recording artist Glen Phillips will headline a 19-city tour in support of his upcoming March 29 release, Winter Pays For Summer. Phillips' tour, which will kick off on March 29 in Madison, WI, and end in Seattle, WA, on May 8, will also include a stop at Irving Plaza in New York on April 6 and a stop in Los Angeles at The Roxy on April 22. Blue Merle will be opening the tour.
The former frontman of Toad The Wet Sprocket has been making music for more than two decades accumulating ten albums, seven with Toad and three as a solo artist. The latest, Winter Pays For Summer, is his most richly melodic and most intensely personal album yet. Tracks like "Courage," "Simple" and "Don't Need Anything" are deep and introspective, while "Thankful" rocks with quirky vocal harmonies and off-beat rhythms. The current single, "Duck and Cover," is no exception and has recently been released to AAA radio.
No Depression magazine says of "Winter Pays For Summer," "Only since Toad ended and Phillips went solo has he been able to take stock of his life and write songs that don't just sound good on the radio, but actually mean as much to his audience as they do to him."
"Winter Pays For Summer" was produced by John Fields (Andrew W.K., The Honeydogs), who also played keyboards and guitars in an all-star studio band that included drummer Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello and The Attractions), guitarists Jon Brion (Fiona Apple, Aimee Mann), Michael Chavez (John Mayer) and Greg Suran (Goo Goo Dolls) along with vocalists Andy Sturmer (Jellyfish) and Ben Folds. Former Semisonic frontman Dan Wilson co-wrote three songs and played on another. Five of the album tracks were mixed by Bob Clearmountain (Bruce Springsteen, The Pretenders, Elton John).
Phillips will be touring with musicians Jonathan Kingham on keys and guitars, Myles Corbin on bass, and Sean Bendickson on drums.
