LOS
ANGELES (www.bradleyleighton.com) - Jazz flutist, educator and
recording artist Bradley Leighton will release his newest CD, Just
Doin' Our Thang (Pacific Coast Jazz) on Sunday, April 24, 2005 at
Humphrey's Backstage Lounge. The CD release event will be held from 4
pm to 7:00 pm and will include performances by Leighton and friends,
who are featured as the band on the new record. John Phillips from KSDS
Jazz 88 will emcee the event. Admission for the general public is $5 at
the door, which will include a discount on the purchase of the new CD.
The media is welcome.
Produced by percussionist and
composer/producer Allan Phillips, Just Doin' Our Thang continues
carving a niche for the talented Leighton as "a straight-ahead jazzman
for the smooth and contemporary set." The record is warm and easy on
the ears but with no lack of technical prowess. A follow-up to Groove
Yard, Leighton's 2003 release on Pacific Coast Jazz, the new record is
slightly more electric and gives a subtle nod to funk and the blues. "
This CD is all about two things," says Leighton. "First, its about the
sound and style of the Hammond B3 organ and the organ/guitar/drum trios
of the 70's. Second its about music I love to play tunes you might
hear any given night if you show up late at the club to catch the last
set." Song selection is varied, covering the gamut from jazz standards
like "Speak Low," to the 70's classic "
Ain't No Sunshine" and a sultry
but funky rendition of Mancini's "Pink Panther Theme." The CD also
features three original tunes by Leighton and a song penned by
Phillips. It will be available in stores nationwide May 10, 2005, with
distribution being handled by New York-based Big Daddy Music
Distribution.
Just Doin' Our Thang boasts a supporting cast of
some of Southern California's finest musicians including Rob Whitlock
on Hammond B3 organ, Duncan Moore on drums, Bob Boss on guitar and
Phillips on percussion and keys. A native of Seattle, Leighton
currently resides in San Diego. He continues to receive national
airplay with Groove Yard, and receives an enthusiastic response to his
jazz clinics and workshops around the country. His next music clinic is
scheduled for April 10th in Poway, California and again on 17th in La
Jolla, California. Bradley Leighton can be seen and heard every
Thursday night at
Aurora Trattoria, 1025 Prospect Street, La Jolla,
California from 8:00 11:00 p.m.
