SYDNEY, AU. (SONY BMG Music Entertainment) - Neo-soulster John Legend has taken out the MOBO Award for Best R&B Act, while British singer Lemar has been awarded Best Album and UK Act Of The Year. The awards, which aim to celebrate music of black origin, are voted for by the public and held annually in London. John Legend's debut album 'Get Lifted' has been heaped with praise since it was released earlier this year. Currently on tour in Australia, John has just taken out the MOBO Award for Best R&B Act. He fought off some tough competition from the likes of Ciara, Mariah Carey, Nate James, Terri Walker and Lemar, but emerged triumphant at the 10th anniversary of the MOBOs. British R&B sensation Lemar didn't go away empty-handed though - he was named 'UK Act Of The Year' ahead of Joss Stone, Estelle, Kano and Roll Deep, and was also awarded 'Best Album' for 'Time To Grow'. According to the BBC, Lemar said he was "over the moon" about his win, and added, "This is so unexpected, I'm taken aback." Lemar performed at the ceremony along with Lauryn Hill, Kano and Damien Marley. Congratulations to both John Legend and Lemar on their wins.
