Carrie Underwood earned her first nominations including Best New Artist and Female Country Vocal Performance for "Jesus, Take The Wheel." The six-week No 1 country single "
Jesus, Take The Wheel" also receives 2 nominations: Best Country Song and Song of the Year.
J Records recording artist Jamie Foxx picked up three nominations including Best R&B Album for his platinum No 1 debut Unpredictable, Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for "Love Changes" (with Mary J. Blige), and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "Unpredictable" (with Ludacris). RCA recording star Christina Aguilera earned nominations for "Ain't No Other Man" as Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and her platinum double disc Back To Basics as Best Pop Vocal Album.
Critically acclaimed RCA Victor electro-pop songstress Imogen Heap was nominated for Best New Artist. In addition, her composition "Can't Take It In," from the soundtrack of The Chronicles Of Narnia - The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe, was nominated for Best Song Written for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.
The just certified gold holiday collection by Arista recording artist Sarah McLachlan, Wintersong, was nominated in the category of Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Superstar vocalist Luther Vandross was nominated posthumously for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for "Got You Home," a previously unreleased track included on the anthology The Ultimate Luther Vandross.
Firewire, the RCA Victor/Bluebird album by veteran guitarist Larry Carlton, was nominated for Best Pop Instrumental Album. The instrumental quartet Fourplay was nominated in the same category for their RCA Victor/Bluebird album X.
Special congratulations go to Howard Benson, nominated for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical for recordings including the album Flyleaf by Flyleaf; and to Will.i.am, who was also nominated for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical for recordings including the track "I Am Somebody" from the album All That I Am by Santana.
The 49th Annual Grammy Awards will be broadcast live on the CBS network on February 11, 2007 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
