LOS ANGELES (Brandy Official Website) - Some 100 radio contest winners helped Brandy celebrate the anticipation of her daughter, due to be born in late June, Friday (May 24) at a baby shower brunch at the Le Meridien hotel in Beverly Hills.

Brandy decided to donate the gifts to the Jenesse Center Inc. that operates three women's shelters in Los Angeles. Brandy told that once she heard about the program, she did some research, and decided to make the organization the beneficiary of the baby gifts. "Well, my mom had mentioned it to me," she said. "I've always been into battered women, and children, and (have) always been supportive of things like that, charities like that. And I went on the Internet, and I read their site. And what they do for women and what they do for children is just fabulous. And then I met the lady Karen (Earl), and she was just great today. You know, it's great to give back. Especially to people who really need it."

Earl, who is the executive director of the charitable organization, expressed her appreciation for Brandy's support. "It's an incredible honor to have recognition of someone like Brandy, and for her to recognize that her celebrating her baby shower is also an opportunity to help mothers in South Central Los Angeles," Earl told.

Founded in 1980 by five African-American women who were victims of domestic violence, the Jenesse Center Inc. provides intervention for women and their children.
