Los Angeles, CA. (Top40 Charts/ Disney Channel) - Musician Kay Hanley (Letters to Cleo) is the vocalist for the theme song and additional featured songs in the new preschool series "My
Friends Tigger & Pooh," premiering Saturday May 12 on Disney Channel (10 AM ET/PT). The talented Emmy Award-nominated composer Andy Sturmer (Jellyfish) is the composer for the show.
"My Friends Tigger & Pooh" brings the classic characters from The Hundred Acre Wood, along with some new friends, to life for the first time in CG 3-D animation. Each episode features two 11-minute stories in which Tigger, Pooh and their new pal Darby don homemade Super Sleuth costumes, transforming themselves into a trio of dedicated problem solvers. Whether figuring out where butterflies come from or what happened to the "rumbly in Pooh's tumbly," the Super Sleuths bring their own perspective to the perplexing puzzler and work together to analyze the situation.
The show is enhanced by the talent of Hanley and Sturmer's memorable sing-a-long music - a core component of Disney's legacy - including the show's theme song, and its recurring tunes "Think, Think, Think" and "Super Sleuths Theme." A music video of the theme song "My Friends Tigger & Pooh," featuring Hanley alongside of Pooh and his friends, was also produced.
Hanley, who was attracted to the project not only because she has two young children but also because of her deep admiration for Sturmer's work, is best known as the lead singer of the alternative rock band, Letters to Cleo, and for her solo albums "Cherry Marmalade" (2002) and "The Babydoll EP" (2004). Her film credits include providing the singing voice for Rachael Leigh Cook's character Josie in Universal Pictures' feature film "Josie and the Pussycats" and performing cover versions of Nick Lowe's 1979 classic, "Cruel to be Kind" and Cheap Trick's "I "Want You to Want Me," for the film "10 Things I Hate About You." On television, Hanley co-wrote and performed music for the Kids WB animated series "Generation O!" She recently launched her own artist development/management company, Art Is War Productions, with longtime collaborator Michelle Lewis. The Boston-bred Hanley currently resides in Los Angeles with her husband, former Letters to Cleo band member, Michael Eisenstein, and their two children (ages 4 and 7).
Former lead singer and drummer of the Beatles-influenced 90's pop band Jellyfish, Sturmer has composed and produced for dozens of artists including Ringo Starr, Brian Wilson, and Ozzy Ozbourne among others. He is also one of the creators of the Japanese pop/rock sensation, Puffy AmiYumi whose multi-platinum selling albums and popular TV show contributed the duo's huge international success. In addition to his current work on "My Friends Tigger & Pooh, Sturmer is also composing music for the upcoming NBC series "The Singles Table" starring Alicia Silverstone. His other television credits include Cartoon Network's "Teen Titans," for which he earned an Emmy Award nomination, and "Ben Ten;" Warner Brothers' "The Batman" series; and Jetix's "Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go."
