WASHINGTON, DC. (Top40 Charts/ RIAA) - Teen TV soundtracks are king this month, with Disney's
Hannah Montana and High School Musical 2 casts each earning double Platinum certification for their second albums, according to the
September report of Gold and Platinum certifications by the Recording
Industry Association of
America (RIAA).
Teens and parents all over have been raving the likes of Disney's popular teen idol Miley Cyrus. Not only has she drawn millions of viewers to the television screen, but she's also sold millions of Hannah Montana's second season release Meet Miley Cyrus: Hannah Montana 2 which features two discs of Miley and her alter ego. The RIAA certified it Gold, Platinum, and multi-Platinum this month, one million shy of the triple Platinum certification for the original release Hannah Montana.
Miley's contemporaries at Disney, the cast of the television movie High School Musical 2, are taking the same route as this soundtrack debuted at No 1 on the Billboard top 200 charts. The album has also sold over two million copies - making it Gold, Platinum and double Platinum this month.
The 2007 motion picture soundtrack to Hairspray, a musical first made popular in 1988 by John Waters' original big screen version, features 19 songs performed by some of today's budding and brightest stage and screen talent. The soundtrack has sold over half a million copies to certify it Gold. Cast member Zack Efron is enjoying double the success, starring in both High School Musical 2 and Hairspray.
RCA Nashville artist Martina McBride's latest country album Waking Up Laughing has certified Gold after selling over 500,000 copies. Waking Up Laughing is Martina's tenth certified album, and brings her to more than 14 million albums sold to date � certainly something to smile about.
Brad Paisley's newest album 5th Gear on Arista Nashville has shifted to Gold, earning Paisley his fifth Gold album.
Not only have up and comers Plain White T's recently received their first Gold record for the Fearless Records release Every Second Counts, but their hit single 'Hey There Delilah' has reached Gold and Platinum status for a Digital Single. This single is the last song on the band's 2005 release of All That We Needed.
Fifth season American Idol finalist Elliott Yamin celebrated his first ever RIAA certified album with his eponymous debut on Hickory Records. His single 'Wait For You' has already surpassed 500,000 downloads, certifying it Gold.
Rapper T.I. continues to remain at the top of the Hip-Hop charts as his hits remain on heavy rotation on radios and in nightclubs. His 2006 release King now includes two more Gold-certified master Ringtone singles � 'Top Back' and 'Why You Wanna.' T.I.'s latest album by Grand Hustle T.I. vs TIP reached Platinum success last month.
T.I.'s rapper protege, who goes by the name of Young Dro, managed to upgrade his master Ringtone certification for his single 'Shoulder Lean' to double Platinum status, reaching over two million downloads to date. This is Young Dro's first multi-platinum master Ringtone which is featured on his Atlantic debut album, Best Thang Smokin'.
'Swift'-ly rising star Taylor Swift has nothing to cry about, receiving her second certified digital single off her Platinum-certified self titled debut album with 'Teardrops on my Guitar,' certifying it Gold.
Hollywood Records country superstars Rascal Flatts brought home two digital single certifications for Platinum certified 'Bless the Broken Road' and 'My Wish' which is Gold.
