NEW YORK, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Rykodisc) - Rykodisc is proud to announce that Joe Jackson is set to tour North
America to support his new record, "Rain," which will be released on January 29, 2008. This is Jackson's first American tour since the summer of 2006. Joining Jackson on tour will be the trio that also made the new album: Jackson (vocals and keyboards), Graham Maby (bass/vocals) and Dave Houghton (drums/vocals). This band is three-fourths of the legendary original Joe Jackson Band that made Jackson's first three records, and his most recent one, 2003's "Volume 4."
"A Blinding return to form... The record 'Rain' resembles the most is Jackson's mighty 'Night And Day,' and it suffers not a jot by comparison." - Word
"Rain" was made in Jackson's newly adopted city of Berlin in a studio called Planet Roc. Very much in keeping with the eclecticism of his wonderful three-decade spanning career, the new record is another genre-defying effort from an artist who continues to extend the boundaries of his craft. Reflecting the title, the record is melancholic in places, but also boasts plenty of humor, swing, sophistication and barbed social commentary as well as some out-and-out rockers. The common thread running through the record is its simplicity, where Jackson's distinctive piano and voice, Maby's intricate and melodic bass and Houghton's tough and tender drums are all you hear. A rich yet stark production by Jackson and mixed by Paul Kolderie and Sean Slade, "Rain" boasts a broad, grand sound, open yet tightly wound and focused at the same time, that emphasizes Jackson's sterling songcraft and brilliant piano playing - a unique amalgam of pop, rock, jazz and classical ideas. Also a highlight once again are Jackson's lyrics as they offer deep, sympathetic glimpses into the human spirit written by a man who is keenly sensitive, sharp and complex.
Included with the CD will be a special DVD featuring three songs from the new record recorded live at the Islington Academy in London, an exclusive behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of the new record as well as Joe Jackson's guide to Berlin.
